H5N1 High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as bird flu, is a global concern. It is widespread among wild birds and has caused outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cattle, with some recent human cases reported among dairy and poultry workers in the U.S.

To minimize the risk of exposure to infected animals, consider the following preventive actions:

*🦃Use and enhance personal protective equipment (PPE).
*🐄Identify and test workers who may have been exposed.
*🦃Offer testing to asymptomatic workers with high-risk exposure.
*🐄Provide education and training about prevention measures.
*🦃Get your seasonal flu shot.

While the flu vaccine won’t prevent H5N1 infection, it can lower the risk of illness and protect against other strains of influenza. The most effective steps you can take include practicing proper hand hygiene and staying up-to-date on vaccinations.
